Rowing

We had a great, safe NZ Champs Regatta last week. Weather was stunning and the rowing was on another level. I must say that it was the most competitive NZ Champs performance wise that we’ve seen in a very long time. Everyone took the opportunity to finally race, especially those Clubs from the North Island. This was our one and only regatta that we’ve been able to attend all season. Crazy!. The highlight of the regatta for the club was a hard fought Bronze Medal by our Intermediate Womens Quad Sculls. They nearly overtook second place where the margin was 0.54 Sec. So close! There was two Kapiti College Students in this crew, Beth Albiston and Bethany Pallister.See photo. Beth also made the ‘B’ Final in the Intermediate Double Sculls and Intermediate Single. Bethany made the ‘B’ Final in the Intermediate Double Sculls. There was over 48 crews entered in each of those events so it was an amazing achievement to make either A or B Finals. Of note the Intermediate Boys Quad Sculls featuring Joe Hughes from Kapiti College, missed out a Bronze Medal by 0.15 of a second.  There was only a bow ball separating them. This crew also featured Tommo Ralph, Josh Ripley and Jack Scott all ex-year 13 students from Kapiti College from last year.Joe also made the ‘B’ Final in the Mens Intermediate Double Sculls. In regards to COVID it was a superbly managed and run event which gives us confidence looking forward to Maadi Cup. I hope that NZR have sent you all the latest documents regarding the remainder of the School Rowing Calendar.Karapiro Rowing (KRI) has just released their COVID Protocols. I will send Ali a copy, plus I’ll also provide you with our protocols that we as a group will follow when not at the regatta course during NISS.
